Boulay PLLP is proud to announce that Tom Johnson, CPA, will assume the position of managing partner effective June 1, 2022. Johnson succeeds Steve Behrns, CPA, who has led Boulay as managing partner since 2016.
“It’s been an honor to have had the opportunity to serve as Boulay’s managing partner over the past six years,” says Behrns. “The firm has experienced impressive growth and added new services for our Boulay clients, all while dealing with a global pandemic. Tom will provide excellent leadership that allows Boulay to continue to grow and prosper. After 40 years with the firm, I look forward to spending more time with my family and taking on new adventures in retirement.”
After graduating from the University of Saint Thomas with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Johnson started his career at Boulay. He was named a partner in 1998 and is a member of the firm’s Board. Johnson previously led Boulay’s tax department as the partner-in-charge of tax services. He currently provides taxation and management consulting services for clients in a wide range of industries, specializing in real estate-related endeavors and transaction planning and structuring.
As managing partner, Johnson will be responsible for the strategic plan and direction of the firm, sourcing opportunities for Boulay’s growth, the quality of the practice, and the development of the partners and internal and external professional and administrative serving staff.

Johnson is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants. He also serves as a board member for both the Trans-African Education Network and Transform Men International, and previously served on the Board of Minnehaha Academy.
Outside of work, Johnson enjoys activities with his family, golfing, and spending time at the cabin. He is a native of Roseville and currently lives in the North Loop with his wife, Karen. You can find Tom walking his dog, Ripley, anytime, anywhere in northeast and downtown Minneapolis.
