Tax-efficient investing is the practice of working to reduce the impact of taxes through your investment decisions. It involves taking taxes into consideration when selecting investments, the accounts that hold your investments, and the timing of buy, sell and withdrawal decisions.
Numerous tax-efficient investing strategies can be used. For example, you can optimize your investments across taxable, tax-advantaged and tax-deferred accounts. You can also look for opportunities to use investment losses to offset investment gains, which lowers your taxable income.
Buying, selling and managing investments with tax-efficiency in mind can save a significant amount of money over the long run. Tax-efficient investing helps you minimize the amount of your investment returns that is lost to taxes. It also ensures you don’t miss out on the growth that your tax dollars could have generated, were they still invested.
Tax-efficiency is a cornerstone of Boulay’s investment management services. Our advisors help you implement tax-efficient investing strategies, so you can seize opportunities for tax savings and make the most of your investments.
While there is no required minimum for assets under management, we typically prefer that new clients have investible assets in excess of $500,000 in order for our investment management services to be cost-effective.
Investment performance may be affected more on smaller accounts due to difficulties with diversifying smaller accounts and risk controls potentially being compromised. Performance of smaller accounts may vary from the performance of accounts with more dollars invested, due to fluctuations in the market that may affect smaller accounts more. Additionally, the effects of compounding may be greater in larger accounts versus smaller accounts.
However, regardless of your portfolio size, we will consult with you to determine whether our investment management services are a fit. If we think another advisor would be better suited to serve your needs, we will refer you to an experienced and trusted professional.
Boulay Financial Advisors, LLC’s goal is to design an investment strategy that matches your investment objectives, time horizon, risk tolerance, liquidity and cash flow needs. The information in the client’s Investment Profile is used to determine the most appropriate investment strategy, and investments are recommended accordingly. In addition to client needs, our investment philosophy focuses on three specific factors:
- Diversification using different asset classes and different classifications within them
- Minimizing fees and transaction costs when possible
- Maximizing after-tax returns when possible
It’s likely that portfolios will vary between clients with similar objectives, due to personal and financial differences such as tax sensitivity, the presence of concentrated stock positions and/or outside holdings, and ethical or religious preferences. Connect with a Boulay Investment Advisor Representative to learn more about our processes for selecting and recommending investments.
Fees for our investment management services are negotiable and are not based on a share of capital gains or capital appreciation of the funds or any portion of the funds. Fees typically start at 1.00% and decrease as the size of the portfolio increases. We do not have a minimum required level of investible assets, but the minimum total annual fee is $6,000.
Boulay Financial Advisors, LLC generally has two types of fee arrangements: a blended fee arrangement and an incremental fee arrangement. Under the blended fee arrangement, the client would pay one annual blended rate with respect to the entire portfolio based total size of the account. Under the incremental fee arrangement, the annual rate is determined based on the incremental thresholds for the size of the account.
We do not charge any performance-based fees (fees based on a share of capital gains or capital appreciation of the assets of a client) or side-by-side management fees. Please review Form CRS for additional information on how we are paid for our investment management services.
A fee-only firm earns income exclusively through the fees that their clients pay, and does not receive payment from any other source.
A fee-based firm also earns income from fees paid by clients, but may accept payment from other sources as well—for example, commissions from selling insurance, securities, or other financial products.
Boulay Financial Advisors, LLC is a fee-based firm, which means some of our advisors can receive commissions for insurance or securities sales, in addition to client-paid advisory fees. For more information about our fees and compensation, please review Form ADV or connect with a Boulay advisor.
No, investments and returns are not guaranteed in any form. Investing involves risks of loss that clients must consider and be prepared to bear. These risks could include loss of value, purchasing power and the ability to convert the investment quickly to cash. The risks of any specific investment should be discussed with your Boulay Investment Advisor Representative before investing.
We develop highly diversified portfolios and recommend investment strategies based on research and client needs.
