Lease Accounting

Helping You Navigate the New Lease Accounting Standard

The new lease accounting standard, ASC 842, presents significant changes for both public and private companies in the way leases are recorded and classified. With the complexity and magnitude of these changes, organizations may face challenges in adopting and meeting the requirements of the new standard. Our lease accounting partners work with you to implement the new standard, providing confidence and clarity every step of the way.

FASB New Lease Accounting Standard – ASC 842

The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB)’s new standard, known as Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) 842, aims to streamline lease accounting under United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and provide better transparency by requiring long-term operating leases to be recorded on the balance sheet. FASB issued a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, setting the effective date for the new lease accounting standards as December 15, 2021 for private companies and nonprofits (for public companies, the standards were put into effect on January 1, 2019).

LeaseCrunch software fees will be billed to our clients directly by (and paid directly to) LeaseCrunch, LLC. Fees are incurred per lease and variable based on the total number of active leases. Clients will be billed annually for each lease in the month the client enters each lease into LeaseCrunch. No charges will be incurred until a lease is entered into the system. If a lease is entered into and deleted from the system in the same month, no charges will be incurred.

The annual fee per lease is as follows (all-inclusive pricing covers Software, Hosting, Support, Upgrades, On-Demand Training Solutions and Knowledge Base):

  • $87 per lease for clients with less than 20 leases in the system
  • $72 per lease for clients with 20 or more leases in the system

LeaseCrunch tiered pricing adjusts annually and will be billed to the client at the new rate for active leases on each lease anniversary date. Leases placed in and remaining in deleted status at or before the anniversary date will not be billed in subsequent years. If deleted leases are restored, all previously unbilled years will become due.

Boulay will separately bill its clients for professional service time incurred related to Boulay providing accounting assistance, implementation services and consulting related to the new lease accounting standard and LeaseCrunch software tool.

The LeaseCrunch user interface is simple and intuitive to use. The lease input process is comprehensive and includes references and “Plain English” interpretations and guidance from ASC 842 to ensure the accurate accounting of leases under the new standard. The functionality includes the ability to generate and access reports that include detailed monthly journal entries, amortization schedules, and quantitative information to satisfy the disclosure requirements of the new lease accounting standard.
